Contemporary society is a man construct that in its most elementary form refers to a group of people who also share a sense of community and agree on the right way to behave inside the community therefore it can function properly. Socialisation is a process of learning, and establishing as a result of the training, in order to effectively integrate in to society. Although we believe, or wish to believe, that we make choices autonomously, free from the influences more, this is not the truth. Agents of socialisation will be those people and groups in a society that influence the self-concept, which often manifests within our attitudes, philosophy, values and behaviours. Though a myriad of brokers contribute to this process over a person lifetime the influence and impact these types of agents have will vary by individual to individual. This kind of essay reflects on three agents of secondary socialisation - national identity, the workplace and social media -- and their influences on my socialisation process. Van Krieken, Habibis, Smith, Hutchins, Marton and Maton (2010) state that countrywide identity is about identifying ourself and others as being a collective instead of as people; a ordinaire that shares a common outlook shaped simply by either tradition, lifestyle or perhaps ancestry or all three. Nationwide identity, typically unconsciously, shapes our daily lives as it manifests in our morals, values, behaviors, views, vocabulary, lifestyle and choices. I am a great Australian simply by choice, having lived in Sydney for a number of years and attaining nationality in Summer 2006, and a New Zealander by birth. Although the two national details are available to me I identify most firmly with my country of birth therefore i classify me personally a New Zealander when asked about my nationality.
MДЃori are the Indigenous peoples of recent Zealand whilst New Zealanders of European descent may be categorised in many ways; PДЃkehДЃ from the MДЃori language, which actually translates to вЂstranger', New Zealander or colloquially as Zoologie. The Kiwi is a flightless bird one of a kind to New Zealand and it is also the most recognizable national signs. Of the three terms open to me as being a nonindigenous New Zealander I personally use the term Kiwi as it as well encapsulates symbolic aspects of New Zealand. There are a number of essential characteristics that typify the national character and identity of New Zealanders according to research undertaken by Sibley, Hoverd and Liu (2011) in which people who were born in New Zealand were asked what attributes classify somebody a вЂtrue' New Zealander. The top five characteristics to emerge from this research had been liberal democratic values, cultural/bi-cultural awareness, rugby/sporting culture, citizenship and ancestry and devoted values, with each feature also being deconstructed into number of related elements. Tolerante democratic ideals, which encompassed pro-social, pro-environmental elements including friendliness, value for people and environment, patience, equality and work ethic was the characteristic which i believe provides most influenced my secondary socialisation and continues to do so on a regular basis.
